Three-Valued Non-Monotonic Formalisms and Semantics of Logic Programs

چکیده

We introduce 3-valued extensions of major non-monotonic formalisms and we prove that the recently proposed well-founded semantics of logic programs is equivalent, for arbitrary logic programs, to 3-valued forms of McCarthy's circumscription, Reiter's closed world assumption, Moore's autoepistemic logic and Reiter's default theory. This result not only provides a further justiication of the well-founded semantics , as a natural extension of the perfect model semantics from the class of stratiied programs to the class of all logic programs, but it also establishes the class of all logic programs as a large class of theories, for which natural forms of all four non-monotonic formalisms coincide. It also paves the way for using eecient computation methods, developed for logic programming, as inference mechanisms for non-monotonic reasoning.

Well-Founded Semantics Coincides With Three-Valued Stable Semantics

We introduce 3-valued stable models which are a natural generalization of standard (2-valued) stable models. We show that every logic program P has at least one 3-valued stable model and that the well-founded model of any program P VGRS90] coincides with the smallest 3-valued stable model of P. We conclude that the well-founded semantics of an arbitrary logic program coincides with the 3-valued...

Three-Valued Semantics for Extended Logic Programs

In 4] , the semantics of monotonic (i.e. not-free) extended logic programs (ELPs) has been rephrased in three-valued logic for two purposes: achieving tractable reasoning with incomplete information and understanding the relationships between the existing semantics and many-valued logics. In this paper, we generalize this approach to unrestricted ELPs. We obtain a unifying view of many formalis...

Truth and knowledge fixpoint semantics for many-valued logic programming

The variety of semantical approaches that have been invented for logic programs for reasoning about inconsistent databases is quite broad. Especially, we are interested in an ontological encapsulation of a many-valued logics with negation, based on bilattices, into a 2-valued logic: this new approach is a minimilistic one based on the concept of the semantic reflection. We define a Model theore...

Autoepistemic Logic of Knowledge and Beliefs

In recent years, various formalizations of non-monotonic reasoning and diierent semantics for normal and disjunctive logic programs have been proposed, including autoepistemic stationary and static semantics of normal and disjunctive logic programs. In this paper we introduce a simple non-monotonic knowledge representation framework which isomorphically contains all of the above mentioned non-m...
